Announcement: CCRF’s New Director

On behalf of the CCRF Executive Committee and our Director Search Committee, it is an honor to share the exciting news that Nakia Woods will be CCRF’s new Coalition Director. The search committee was most impressed to hear Nakia articulate the reproductive justice movement of the future as a deeply engaged, intersectional movement that centers Black, Indigenous, People of Color and queer communities. We are confident that with Nakia at the helm, CCRF can strengthen its critical work to move our state, country, and movements into an equitable and just future for all.

Nakia Woods (they/she) comes to the California Coalition for Reproductive Freedom after three years as the Director for Oakland’s HOPE Collaborative. HOPE (Health for Oakland’s People and Environment) is a community collaborative working to advance racial, economic, and health equity in Oakland’s food system and built environment. A graduate of the Dr. Beatriz Maria Solís Policy Institute (formerly Women’s Policy Institute at the Women’s Foundation California), Nakia has been an active member and facilitator of multiple Bay Area coalitions and collaboratives, including the Roots of Labor Birth Collective. Originally from San Diego, Nakia has been thriving in the Bay area for almost 10 Years! In their spare time, they love to take care of their plant children Lily and Harry Potter, interact with all things Harry Potter, and practice birthwork. They are excited to bring their advocacy and relationship-building skills to advance reproductive health, justice, and equity statewide in California.
